Meeting Your Family’s Dental Needs

By Stephen Rogers on August 04, 2015

Three generations of family with attractive smilesTo maintain the health, strength, and beauty of the smile, it is important for at-home and professional dental care to be a lifelong commitment. At Greater Long Island Dental, we want to provide a place where all the members of a family can receive the quality dental care that they need throughout the patient’s lifetime. From young children, to senior patients, and everyone in between, we provide family dentistry services to our Long Island patients. We recommend that patients undergo routine general dentistry services to maintain and improve oral health. In addition, our dentists offer restorative dentistry services to address dental complications, as well as cosmetic dentistry services that allow our patients to enhance the aesthetics of the smile. We are truly committed to helping our patients preserve the integrity of their smile.

General Dental Care

General dental care is important for patients of all ages. From the age of 3 and beyond, the American Dental Association recommends that people schedule dental exams at least twice a year. At these exams, our dentists are able to examine the teeth, gums, and soft tissues of the mouth. In addition to the oral exam, we provide our patients with a professional cleaning that removes bacteria, plaque, and tartar that may be difficult for a patient to remove through at-home cleaning practices.

General dentistry services are the best way to maintain good oral health and are the greatest tool in preventing serious oral health problems. While the basis of a dental exam will be the same for all patients, we do our best to cater to the specific needs of each patient, based on his or her age. For instance, while fluoride treatments and sealants may be important for young children, these treatments are less likely to be performed on adults. Instead, we will place more emphasis on periodontal care when we are seeing older patients.

Restorative Dental Care

Restorative dental care is necessary when a patient has experienced damage to the teeth or gums. Common dental problems that can be addressed through restorative dental care include the following:

  • Dental cavities or tooth decay
  • Acid erosion
  • Gum disease
  • Root canal infection
  • Cracked, chipped, or damaged tooth
  • Tooth loss

Again, while a patient of any age may be in need of restorative dental care, there are problems that are more likely at different stages of a patient’s life. We understand that dental cavities are most likely to be the primary concern of our younger patients, while adults may experience more severe dental problems. No matter what problem is present, we offer patients the quality dental care that is necessary to restore the health and function of a damaged or infected tooth.

Cosmetic Dental Care

While cosmetic dental care is not appropriate for children, we know that as our patients age, it becomes more difficult to maintain the aesthetics of the smile. We offer a full range of cosmetic dentistry services that can address common cosmetic flaws, such as tooth discoloration, gaps, chips, and cracks, to give patients a more attractive and healthy-looking smile.
