Take-home Teeth Whitening Treats Your Smile while You Sleep
If you want to achieve a whiter smile in the comfort of your own home, NiteWhite® take-home teeth whitening from our Long Island, NY, practice can help you reach your goals. This treatment uses prescription bleaching gel to brighten teeth and, at the same time, prevent cavities. Meanwhile, NiteWhite gel is specially formulated to dramatically reduce dental sensitivity. Stephen E. Rogers, DMD, will help you select the right whitening treatment. If desired, he can combine NiteWhite with other cosmetic dentistry procedures to achieve a complete smile makeover.
Are You a Candidate for NiteWhite?
NiteWhite can be an effective way to reduce extrinsic dental stains, or those that occur in the outer layers of your teeth. Most often, these stains appear because of food and drink. When you regularly drink dark-colored liquids like red wine, coffee, or tea, pigmented molecules will stain your dental enamel. Dark foods, such as berries and tomato sauce, have an especially strong staining effect. Fortunately, NiteWhite can easily lift these stains from your teeth. However, the treatment cannot address intrinsic stains, which occur on the inner layers of dental tissue. If you wish to address intrinsic stains, your dentist may recommend porcelain veneers or dental bonding.
NiteWhite results usually last up to six months, but our affordable touch-up treatments can keep your smile bright.
As a candidate for NiteWhite, you should be in good dental health. Decay or gum disease will not disqualify you from treatment, but your dentist will need to treat these conditions before starting cosmetic care. You should not undergo teeth whitening if you are pregnant or nursing.
How NiteWhite Works
When you choose NiteWhite, we will provide a set of custom whitening trays. You will fill the trays with prescription bleaching gel. The secure fit of the trays will keep the gel from touching the soft tissues of your mouth. Meanwhile, the trays are very comfortable. This is an important consideration since you will wear them overnight.
Typically, you will need to wear the trays for seven to 10 nights. We can prescribe amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) gel, which can reduce your risk for cavities and help to prevent dental sensitivity. NiteWhite results usually last up to six months, but our affordable touch-up treatments can keep your smile sparkling.
NiteWhite vs. In-Office Teeth Whitening
In addition to NiteWhite, we also offer in-office Zoom!® teeth whitening. This treatment can achieve comparable results to take-home whitening. However, it is a faster process that typically takes just one hour. Therefore, Zoom! may be better for you if you have an important upcoming event. On the other hand, you may prefer to brighten your smile when it is entirely convenient for you. During your consultation, Dr. Rogers will help you select the right teeth whitening method based on your needs and goals.
