What Is a Dental Crown?
Dental crowns have been strengthening smiles for centuries, and the advanced techniques and technology we utilize in crafting and placing dental crowns have brought hundreds of patients to Greater Long Island Dental. The dental crowns we use are durable shells of ceramic porcelain designed to fit over your teeth or restore dental implants. By recreating the contours, texture, and color of your natural teeth, dental crowns provide structural support, added strength, and aesthetic improvement to your smile.
Understanding Your Options
We pride ourselves on our ability to offer specialized treatment to each of our patients at Greater Long Island Dental. The variety of dental crowns and placement techniques we offer allow us to personalize your care to meet your individual needs.
- Using CEREC® technology, we can deliver crowns in one day when your busy lifestyle limits your time.
- For a cleaner, whiter, and more modern look, metal-free crowns provide more aesthetically pleasing results.
- Our realistic, natural-looking crowns blend the science and artistry of dentistry for a strong and beautiful smile.
When you arrive for your initial consultation, our friendly, compassionate staff will welcome you with a smile. On meeting with your dentist, each procedural option will be discussed and explained in detail to help you determine which solution is right for you. During this process, any questions or concerns you have will be addressed. By the time your appointment comes to a close, you will be well informed and ready for the procedure.
Understanding the Procedure
On your next visit to our Long Island practice, your doctor will use X-rays, digital photographs, and other diagnostic tools to begin the dental crown procedure. If used to strengthen an existing tooth, preparations include:
- Administering anesthetic to ensure your comfort
- Removing the decayed or damaged tooth material
- Removing enough enamel to make room for the restoration
- Using CAD/CAM technology to map the prepared tooth
- Using the CEREC® machine to fabricate the dental crown
Once your restoration is complete (the CEREC® machine can mill your restoration in just a few minutes), the fit and color will be checked, your tooth will be thoroughly cleaned, a light buffing of the enamel will be performed to optimize the bonding surface, and the dental crown will be secured in place with dental cement. Drs. Paschkes, Rogers, Woltmann, and Geraci have perfected the dental crown procedure to ensure that it is comfortable and quick. You won't have to hold your mouth open for very long, and before you know it, your smile will be complete again.
One of the greatest benefits to choosing a doctor with extensive experience in cosmetic and restorative dentistry is that he or she will have the ability to provide comprehensive results by combining multiple treatments. Because dental crowns can be made to match the color of your natural teeth, a teeth-whitening treatment beforehand will dramatically improve your aesthetic results.
Similarly, if a crooked or misaligned smile needs to be corrected before you treat a tooth with a dental crown, our orthodontics experts can use Invisalign® or traditional braces to straighten your smile.
When it comes to combining various treatments with dental crowns, the possibilities are virtually endless. Whether you will benefit most from porcelain veneers, a BOTOX® injection, or a full-smile makeover, our team at Greater Long Island Dental can help.
