Advanced Digital X-rays Help Us Make Faster, More Accurate Diagnoses
At Greater Long Island Dental Health Associates, we choose digital radiographs over traditional x-rays because of the greater benefits available with this technology. The higher-quality scans limited radiation exposure help us maintain our commitment to patient education and safety. With digital x-rays, our Long Island dentists can provide earlier and more accurate diagnoses, as well as more precise and conservative treatment to restore your oral health.
Efficient, Advanced Technology
Digital x-rays use specialized beams of light that pass easily through the soft tissues while the calcium in your teeth and bones will absorb the light. The rest of the beams will strike a digital sensor, while your teeth produce a shadow. These shadows, or x-ray images, will immediately upload to a computer located here in the office. Your dentist will examine the negatives since irregularities will show up more clearly on white images of your teeth.
Your x-rays can reveal the entirety of the mouth and jaw. Examining these images, your doctor can diagnose misalignment, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, jaw recession, impacted teeth, and other widespread concerns. We usually take x-rays once a year at every other visit. However, if you are experiencing a toothache, jaw pain, or other symptoms, we may need to take additional images. Furthermore, we may need more x-rays to monitor your orthodontic treatment or to evaluate the success of a bone graft.
Digital x-rays involve much less radiation exposure than standard x-rays and is safer both for our patients and for our team.
The Benefits of Digital X-Rays
Your digital scans will appear instantly, reducing the length of your appointments and allowing your practitioner to make faster treatment recommendations. Because they will appear on a computer screen, your dentist can magnify digital images to more effectively evaluate your teeth, jawbone, and supporting tissues in great detail. You will also be able to see the images clearly, allowing us to explain your oral health and treatment options. Through this process, we will allow you to be a participant in your own dental care.
Digital x-rays involve much less radiation exposure than standard x-rays and is safer both for our patients and for our team. In addition, eliminating paper photos, chemicals, and most radiation, digital x-rays are more environmentally friendly than standard radiography.
